Have you ever been lost in an article, post or any type of social media content and clicked share or retweet without even thinking?

Sharing or retweeting content on the spur of the moment that you love, rather than content that’s going to be valuable to your community is easy to do especially when there is so much content being published every single day. We have access to so much content online, in fact, 2.5 quintillion bytes of data, according to a recent study by Domo. In this research from Domo, you can see how much content is produced every minute of the day online.

Sharing content with your community that isn’t meaningful or packed with value has the potential to damage your brand and your reputation. This is why it’s so important to stop and think about what you share and the impact it will have on your audience.

Before you share that entertaining quote or educational article with your Facebook fans or Twitter followers, ask yourself these seven questions to ensure it adds value and will help your audience in some way.

7 powerful social media content questions

  • Does it inform?
  • Will it educate my readers?
  • Is it inspirational?
  • Will it empower?
  • Does it entertain?
  • Is it aligned with my brand and values?
  • Will this content help solve a problem?

The content you curate for your community must inform, educate, inspire, empower or entertain your audience. It must be relevant, solve a problem and be aligned with your brand.

Always be mindful of your audience, your brand and your reputation. If you’re not sure whether to share a piece of content or not, ask yourself these seven questions first. If you’re still not sure, don’t publish it. It’s not worth the risk.

I’d love to hear your thoughts.
